Kamala Harris

Kamala Devi Harris (born October 20th, 1964) was an American lawyer, politician, and the current vice president of United States. Harris is the first vice president to be female and the highest-ranking female official in U.S. History, as being the first African American and second Asian American vice president. As a member of the Democratic Party, she was the former attorney general of California from 2011 to 2017 and an United States senator representing California from 2017 to 2021. Harris was born in Oakland. Harris received her law degree from Howard University. Harris began her career with the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. Then, she was appointed by the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. In 2003, she was appointed district attorney for San Francisco. In 2010 she was elected Attorney General of California and then re-elected in 2014. From 2017 to 2021, Harris was the junior United States senator for California. Harris beat Loretta Sanchez in the 2016 Senate election to become the second African American woman and the first South Asian American to serve in the United States Senate. As Senator, Harris was a vocal advocate for federal de-scheduling of healthcare, and legalization of cannabis as a pathway to citizenship for immigrants who are not legally documented, and the DREAM Act which bans assault weapons. She is well-known for her direct questions to Trump government officials during Senate hearings.
